Horse Health and Black Walnut shavings

Click the following link to the OMAFRA webpage for a discussion of the effects on horse health related to certain tree species. Shavings contaminated with Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) and Butternut (Juglans cineraria) or the fruit of these trees may cause toxicity in horses.

As a designer of horse farm properties we should also note that these tree species should not be used in landscaping where horses have access to the fallen fruit or branches.
